Last Day of Work Experience :)

Today was my last day of work experience ever in Transition year. I started my day off by printing and laminating pictures and cutting them out. We then had to stick them up in the library as our task was to create a visual aspect to the library.  We went to help a patient scan items into her computer and she had bought us a box of chocolates each as she really appreciated all the work we did for her. We then went and sold raffle tickets as they are having a charity event for classic golf. The tickets were €2 each and we managed to sell a good few. We had our lunch after that.
 After we finished our lunch we went to the sing along with the elderly for the last time. We had a great time there and we sang loads of songs! I really enjoyed my work experience in Peamount, as it gave me an insight   to what working in a hospital is really like :)

Week 5 :)

Yesterday was my fifth day of work experience in Peamount hospital.  I started my day off by bringing a laminator to one of the patients. We then went on a bus journey to to a radio station called Liffey Sound. We were shown the different equipment used to broadcast their radio station. We got to play different songs and we learnt how to record songs using a software programme. I found this very interesting and I learnt a lot from it. When we came back we went to the physiotherapy. I had a great time here learning about different ways of mobility. This brought us up to lunchtime. After lunch we went to the singalong with the elderly patients and I really enjoyed it. We sang loads of different songs from loads of different years. I had a great time and Im looking forward to next week :)

Week 4 :)

This week was my fourth week of work experience. My day started off with continuing on with our project. I had to reprint off some pictures and we then figured out that the laminator was broken. I then went to help a patient scan 231 pages back into her computer. We were there for about two hours and we only got 100 pages done. I then went to help another patient sort out her folders and her items. When I had finished this I met back up with the other girls and we went for lunch. After lunch we went over to another part of the wards and had a sing song with the elderly patients. There was a good mixture of songs and I really enjoyed it. I am really looking forward to next week :)

Week 3 :)

 This week was my third week of work experience in Peamount. When we arrived we chatted to our supervisor about wheelchairs and then went on a coffee break. After that we continued on with our project for the library, by printing out pictures and laminating them. I then went to 'drama theropy'. I found this very interesting and it was good to work with the patients. I returned to the other girls then and we continued with our project. We got a demonstration of how to clamp a wheel chair into a bus. We then went on a bus trip after strapping the wheelchair in. We returned and we went to interview a patient on a course she did. I asked her some questions and wrote down her answers. This brought us up to lunchtime. After lunch we went to the sing along with the elderly. It was very enjoyable and i'm looking forward to next week :)

Week 2 :)

This week was my second week of my work experience in Peamount Hospital. When I arrived my supervisor greeted me and told me to go on a coffee break. After that the other girls and I had to begin our project by looking up pictures on the Internet that suited each category of the library. Unfortunately the pictures came out in black and white so they didn't look as well as i thought they would. After that we got to go to a fire safety training. I found this really interesting and I learnt some new facts! We then got to go and watch a DVD on abuse against patients. It was very interesting but sad at the same time. That had brought us up to lunchtime. We had our lunch and we then went over to a different ward and had a sing song with the elderly. I met some new people and I really enjoyed the day :)

Work Experience 3 :)

 This week I started my first week of my third work experience in Peamount Hospital in Newcastle. I arrived there at 09:50 in time for 10:00. Two of my friends, Hannah and Laura were also with me so I wasn't as nervous as I would be on my own. Our day started off by looking up facts and Information on the Hospital in their Internet Cafe. When we had finished that we got to listen in to a radio interview with a woman who is doing a skydive to raise money for the Hospital. I found this very interesting and we got invited to go to the radio station one of the days for some experience, which I am really looking forward to. We then had our Lunch in the canteen and met some more of the staff there. After lunch we got to go to a different area, which was with the elderly. We got to have a sing song with them which was very enjoyable. This brought us to the end of the day , and I really enjoyed it. I am really looking forward to next week to get some more experiences :)

Last Day :)

 Yesterday was my last day of work experience in the boys National School. I have been there for the last eight weeks. When I arrived I met the vice principal and she let me in to the office where I was greeted by one of the receptionists. I spent most of my day photocopying six hundred and forty six copies of a school sponsor walk card. I then had to photocopy the back of it. When I had finished photocopying I numbered them from 1 right up to 646. It took ages! but I got it done. I then sorted them into class groups, writing each teachers name onto it.

 After Lunch, I had to photocopy a letter for every student and divide into the class groups. I also counted the Lotto Envelopes. I delivered the letters and the lotto envelopes to each class. I went around the different classes to see if any of them needed help and I eventually got a job in a second class to hang up their artwork outside their class. It was a long day, but I got a lot of experiences from the school in the last eight weeks :)

Week 7 :)

 This week was my seventh week of work experience :) I started off in second class. As they are making their first Holy Communion they have their first penance this week. They wanted to represent their class as sheep so I helped the boys colour in , stick cotton wool on and cut out their sheep.
 After break I photocopied letters for each class and I counted out the lotto envelopes and I delivered them into each class. I did PE with second class. They played loads of different games and had great fun. When they were out of the classroom I had to spray hairspray on top of pastille artwork they had been doing so it would conceal the pastilles. 
 After Lunch I went back to the office and I had to write out a list of all the children that are being enrolled for September. I had to write a stamped address envelope for each child. There was 90. It took a while but I got it done. I also did some shredding. I went back down to the classroom and did a few more sheep with the children and then it was home time! :)

Week 6 :)

 This week was my sixth week of work experience. When I arrived at the school I met one of the receptionists and many of the teachers. I went into the office and they asked me to count out more of the Lotto envelopes. After I had finished that , one of the teachers showed me how to work the fax machine. It was a busy morning as the boys in sixth class had made their Confirmation the day before. 

After little break I went into 2nd class. I was observing their maths lesson and I helped out with their Irish. The teacher the asked me to teach a little boy English, as he was knew in the school and he hadn't many words. I was teaching him the alphabet and helping him to figure out the sounds of the letters. There was also pictures beside each letter to help him out so I was helping him to figure out the different ones. 

After lunch I delivered letters and lotto envelopes to each class and I then went back into 2nd class and they went to PE. I played some games with them like snatch the bacon. It was very enjoyable. The boys then presented there history projects to the class about 'when there grandparents were in school'. They all had interesting facts and they knew what they were saying. They finished there day off with music. They were learning a song about a sheep that lost its way. It was very good and they were really good at singing. I had a really good day and I really enjoyed being in the classroom :)

Week 5 :)

 Today was my fifth week of work experience. My day started off differently as it was 'Enrolement day' which is when parents come to sign up their children who are starting school in the coming September. I started my day off by delivering notebooks to each class. After break I went into a junior Infant class to help them make 'Love Bugs' which is a paper love heart with arms and legs.  They really enjoyed making them and I had a great time helping them. It was much better being in the classroom as I got to experience more.   After I finished there I had to staple loads of booklets together which took a while.
   After lunch I just went around to the classrooms to see if any teachers needed my help, which they did. It was mostly photocopying and I then had to bring the booklets I had stapled together earlier to one of the classrooms. I finished my day by counting out more lotto envelopes. I really enjoyed being in the classroom for the short time today and hopefully i'll get into another class next week :)

Week 4 :)

 This week was my fourth week of work experience in the boys national school. When I arrived the receptionists weren't there, so I had to wait. When she arrived I went into the office with her and she asked me to count the school Lotto envelopes for each class. The vice principal told me that one of the teachers had photocopying for me to do, so I went and got the books off her. I had to photocopy pages for senior-sixth class. After Lunch I delivered the lotto envelopes to each class and came back to the office.
   One of the receptionists was out and the other one went home at twelve. The vice principal also left, leaving me in charge of the office :) I had to answer the phone if it rang, which it did.  There was a little boy crying so I went over to him and I had to bring him to his teacher as he could not find his minder. When I was leaving I had to close the blinds and lock the doors :) I hope to get into a class next week, so I am looking forward to that :)

Week 3 :)

Unfortunately , I was unable to attend my work experience this week, as I was sick. I really missed it and Im looking forward to next week :)

Week 2 :)

 Yesterday was our second week of work experience. My day was very similar to last week, as I started off with counting out the lotto envelopes again. I delivered the envelopes, milk forms and letters to each class room. I had to put forms into envelopes and seal each one, which took a while.
After lunch I did some shredding and collected each roll book from the different classes. I met some new staff and they were all very nice. Next week I am hoping to get into a classroom , instead of being in the office! The receptionist said I could so hopefully I will. The day was grand but I am looking forward to getting into a class! :)

Work Experience 2 ;)

 On Wednesday we started our second placement for work experience. This time it is for eight weeks. I am now in Scoil na Mainistreach, the boys national school in my local area. I began at 09:10 on Wednesday Morning! When I arrived I met the reception woman at the front desk and she told me that I would be in the office with her for the day as the other receptionist was out. 

  I began my day with sorting out Lotto envelopes for each class for the next three weeks. The receptionist then asked me to count out tracksuit order forms for the boys in each class and then I had to count out the letter that went with it. That had brought me up to lunch time so I went and had my lunch in the staff room with the teachers. 
  After lunch I got to deliver the letters, tracksuit forms, and lotto envelopes to each class , which took a while, as I didn't know my way around the school! but I did get used to it, after some time :)

   When I had that finished the vice principal asked me to go through some files and take out a certain part of each one. It took ages as there was a metal clip attached to each one, so I had to try take them off each file. 

  Overall I thought it was alright but I am hoping to get into a class next week, as I want to know if I would like to teach. It was good to get experience in an Office though.

Last Day :(

 Today was my last day of work experience, I cannot believe its over. I had such a great time and gained so many new experiences from it. I would consider doing child care in the future.

 The staff had a meeting on this morning so Katie, Ciara and I were all upstairs with the younger children. I had missed them all so much and it was great to be with them on my last day. I got to play with them all, coloured and make jigsaws but I then  had to go downstairs to the older group.

 I played loads of games and made loads of jigsaws with them. We also painted Christmas pictures like Santa, snowmen, angels,Christmas trees and a lot more. Most of it ended up on my hand anyways and not the paper! They really enjoyed it. We couldn't go outside as it was to frosty and dangerous for the children in case they would fall. We sang loads of Christmas songs instead and then it was home time! :(

I returned then for the after school group. We coloured with them a lot and they had there dinner. While they were eating I weighed out the ingredients so they could bake some FLAPJACKS!!!! They loved the baking and then after that Katie and I had to clean all the bowls and dishes in the Kitchen.  The flapjacks turned out really well in the end :)

I helped them put up the Christmas Tree with all the children. It was such a novelty to them and us! . They loved helping out while wearing their Santa hats! We finally got the tree up and put on all the lights so we decorated the tree and the rest of the building.

It was then Home time for Katie, Ciara and I,  the staff and children thanked us and we all had a cookie to celebrate. It was really nice of them to take us on for the ten weeks and I certainly had a brilliant time. I am really going to miss it now and thanks to all the members of Happy Days for giving me the experience :).

Week 9 :)

 Yesterday was my ninth week of work experience. I changed groups again so I was with the slightly older children. I made  owls with them out of cotton wool and painted them with brown and white paint. I played different games with the children and then went outside to play. I made alot of jigsaws too and they really loved it.They had their lunch which took a while and After that it was home time.

 In The after school care I was with the group upstairs. There is only four of them so it was very quiet.  They played outside for ages and we did little jobs around the building for them like cleaning the room after they had their dinner and setting up activities for them when they came back in. I made scones with them so I went down to the kitchen to weigh the ingredients, which took a while as I had to find them all first! The mixture turned out very dry but it turned out good in the end once it was cooked. I helped colour in some of the childrens pictures and then did some Hama Beads with them , which is beads that you can make shapes with and then iron them to get your design. It was a very good day and I can't wait for next week,even though its the last :( :)

Week 8 :)

  Today was my 8th week of work experience. This morning, I got to return to my group who I had from the start, and I was delighted. They had their free play as usual and they we painted. They were painting circles with different colours. Today was brown, green and blue, they were joining them together to make a snake.

We went outside for a while and came back in , played with blocks, sang songs and then it was home time!:)

  
  After Lunch, the children were outside for ages and it was soo cold!!! We went back in and we made a lemon cake! :) so each child got to help make some part of the cake. The groups then split in half and I was with 1 and Ciara was with the other! I helped the children colour, do word searches and cleaned around the room. I had a great time and I can't believe my time there is nearly over!!! :)
